【Skill 6】Understand the difference between the two things from the expressions that are reversed in meaning

Understand the difference between the two things from expressions that follow 「は」(a form showing contrast), 「場合」(the case), and 「ほうは」(a form showing contrast) are reversed in meaning.

In the following recording, 「著作物です」(It is copyrighted work) means that it is not free to use, so 「自由に使える」 and 「著作物です」(It is copyrighted work) that follow 「は」(a form showing contrast) are reversed in meaning. This explains the difference between 「グラフ」(graph) and 「イラスト」(illustration) that precede 「は」(a form showing contrast).

■ グラフは自由に使える一方、イラストは著作物です。(Graphs are free to use. Illustrations, on the other hand, are copyrighted work.)

In the following recording, 「著作者の死後70年まで保護されます」(protected up to 70 years after the author's death) means 「70年を過ぎたら保護されない」(no protection after 70 years), so 「永久に保護される」(permanently protected) and 「著作者の死後70年まで保護されます」 that follow 「は」(a form showing contrast) are reversed in meaning. This explains the difference between 「人格権」(personal rights) and 「著作権」(copyright) that precede 「は」(a form showing contrast).

■ 人格権は永久に保護される一方、著作権は著作者の死後70年まで保護されます(Personal rights are permanently protected. Copyright, on the other hand, is protected up to 70 years after the author's death.)
