【Skill 3】Understand either the speaker is asking a question or seeking consent, from the difference in the pitch of [jah-nah-ee].

If the pitch from [jah] to [nah] of [jah-nah-ee] goes up, and it goes down from [nah] to [ee] then immediately goes up, the speaker is asking a question. In the following recording, the speaker is asking whether I think that the work is hard or not.

■ [so-no-she-goe-toh tah-ee-heh-n-jah-nah-ee?] (Don't you think the work is hard?)

While the pitch from [jah] to [nah] of [jah-nah-ee] does not go up, and it does not go down from [nah] to [ee], the speaker is seeking consent. In the following recording, the speaker thinks "The work is hard" and seeks consent from me.

■ [so-no-she-goe-toh tah-ee-heh-n-jah-nah-ee?] (The work is hard, isn't it?)
